چکیده

We study numerically the spatial properties of relaxation clusters in a two dimensional sandpile automaton with dynamic rules depending stochastically on a parameter p, which models the eeects of static friction. In the limiting cases p = 1 and p = 0 the model reduces to the critical height model and critical slope model, respectively. At p = p c , a continuous phase transition occurs to the state characterized by a nonzero average slope. Our analysis reveals that the loss of nite average slope at the transition is accompanied by the loss of fractal properties of the relaxation clusters.

Hydraulic fracture propagation: analytical solutions versus Lattice simulations

In this work, we used a grain-based numerical model based on the concept of lattice. The modelling was done to simulate the lab experiments carried out on the mortar samples. Also the analytical solutions corresponding to the viscosity-dominated regime were used to estimate the fracture length and width, and the results obtained were compared with the numerical simulations. As the analytical so...

Prediction of Nitrogen Injection Performance in Conventional Reservoirs Using the Correlation Developed by the Incorporation of Experimental Design Techniques and Reservoir Simulation

Enhanced oil recovery using nitrogen injection is a commonly applied method for pressure maintenance in conventional reservoirs. Numerical simulations can be practiced for the prediction of a reservoir performance in the course of injection process; however, a detailed simulation might take up enormous computer processing time. In such cases, a simple statistical model may be a good approach to...

Field Measurements and 3D Numerical Modeling of Hydrodynamics in Chabahar Bay, Iran

As the first phase of a series of monitoring and modeling studies of Iranian coastal areas, Chabahar Bay, located on the north coast of the Gulf of Oman, was under a comprehensive monitoring and modeling study in 2006-2007. The study included an extensive one-year field measurements program to help understanding the ongoing processes in the bay and provide inputs or boundary conditions and vali...

Experimental and numerical study of natural ventilation in four-sided wind tower traps

In the past, wind towers were applied as the main architectural part of building construction in the desert areas of Iran. These almost high structures were used as cooling load suppliers at residential buildings. In the present study, the effect of symmetric four-sided wind tower in flow induction to the bottom space has been analysed by using a wind tunnel and numerical simulations. In the nu...

Prediction of Pressure Drop of Al2O3-Water Nanofluid in Flat Tubes Using CFD and Artificial Neural Networks

In the present study, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) techniques and Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) are used to predict the pressure drop value (Δp ) of Al2O3-water nanofluid in flat tubes. Δp  is predicted taking into account five input variables: tube flattening (H), inlet volumetric flow rate (Qi  ), wall heat flux (qnw  ), nanoparticle volume fraction (Φ) and nanoparticle diameter (dp ...
